Openings

Notice

Incoming University of Toronto graduate students in the group should expect to be based at the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics during the research portion of their studies. Postdocs shall also be based in the MPI. For openings, please see https://www.mpi-halle.mpg.de/jobs

Graduate and Undergraduate Students

If you have a passion for photonics, device physics, and research at the intersection of engineering and physics, consider joining our group! Due to the challenging nature of the projects, our research is suited to the most highly motivated students with exceptional abilities. We welcome 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students (part-time during the term, summer, thesis research) and have openings for graduate students (MASc, PhD levels).

Please contact Prof. Joyce Poon via email if you are interested.

Postdoctoral Researchers

We seek outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a combined theoretical and experimental background in integrated photonics, with a Ph.D. in the physical sciences or engineering. The candidate should have the following skills:

  • Optoelectronic simulations (e.g. FEM, FDTD, TCAD, thermal, electronic device and electromagnetic)
  • Layout (e.g. making building blocks, layout complex masks)
  • Micro- and nano- photonic device measurement (e.g. transmission, fiber-coupled, free-space, high-speed optoelectronic)

Experience in cleanroom and microelectronic design is also helpful. The candidate should also have excellent communication and leadership skills.

Please contact Prof. Joyce Poon via email if interested.
